Eco-Labels: Recycling and Waste Recovery in Business

Certification labels are essential for companies committed to sustainability and social responsibility. They validate compliance with rigorous standards in sustainability, social responsibility, and energy efficiency. Obtaining these certifications demonstrates your commitment to environmentally friendly and socially responsible practices.

Today, Nrecycli Office unveils our selection of the best labels dedicated to the circular economy and waste management.

ISO 14001

ISO 14001 is an international environmental management standard that enables companies to manage and reduce their environmental impacts. It includes specific criteria such as legal compliance, management commitment, environmental objectives, and operational control. To obtain this certification, a company must first conduct an initial environmental assessment, implement an environmental management system, perform internal audits, organize a management review, and undergo a certification audit by an accredited body. Once certified, the company benefits from annual audits to ensure its compliance and continuously improve its environmental performance.

Other standards such as ISO 14004, ISO 14005 and ISO 14006 offer additional guidelines for integrating eco-design and further reducing environmental impacts.

C2C (Cradle to Cradle)

Cradle to Cradle assesses the safety, circularity, and responsibility of products across five categories: material health, material reuse, renewable energy, water stewardship, and social justice. Certification criteria include material safety and reuse, renewable energy use, sustainable water and soil management, and social equity. As with other labels, C2C requires regular audits to maintain certification.

Blue Angel

Established in 1978, Blue Angel is the world's oldest environmental certification, originating in Germany. Its goal is to promote environmental protection by minimizing the negative impacts of products and services, while providing consumers with reliable information on eco-friendly products and encouraging innovation in sustainable development. To obtain this prestigious certification, a product must meet strict criteria, including:

  • Contain at least 80% recycled materials,
  • Reduce its pollutant emissions by 50% compared to existing standards,
  • Reduce waste produced throughout its life cycle by 60%.

Blue Angel is a respected benchmark and remains a pillar of environmental certification.

B Corp

Created in 2006 in the United States, the B Corp certification recognizes companies that demonstrate exemplary environmental and social practices. To obtain this certification, companies must first pass the B Impact Assessment, a test that evaluates and manages their overall impact. A minimum score of 80 out of 200 questions is required for certification. The scoring criteria cover governance, impact on employees, the community, the environment, and customers. An accredited firm then verifies the accuracy of the answers to validate or deny certification.

BREEAM In-Use

BREEAM In-Use is a benchmark standard for assessing the environmental impact of buildings. It examines aspects such as energy efficiency, recyclability, and the sustainability of building materials. The certification is divided into two parts: Asset performance and Management performance.

  • Asset performance: assesses the intrinsic characteristics of the building, such as energy consumption, the use of sustainable materials, and water conservation systems.
  • Management performance: focuses on the policies and practices implemented to improve environmental performance, including workplace policies and awareness programs.

These two aspects are assessed through 9 criteria: energy, health, well-being, resources, resilience, water, land use and ecology, pollution, management and transport.

In summary, BREEAM In-Use provides a clear and precise picture of a building's environmental impact and sustainability efforts.
